North East Region England Fencing has been successful in securing almost £2000 to develop fencing skills with ethnic minority groups in the North East and Bradford!
Prior to Covid-19 lockdown, Beth Davidson, Programme Manager, began to engage with women from Muslim Girls Fence British Fencing project to learn how we can increase the opportunities for women to be involved and understand the barriers that stop women taking part.
The On-Guard Sister project aims to bring these groups together to share experiences at an event at Manchester Fencing Centre in December, developing greater understanding of fencing, ability to participate equally with others and increase understanding of the barriers women face, especially those marginalised because of ethnicity and gender
Beth and her female team of coaches, Lorraine Rose and Mumtaz Khan will be leading activities to develop confidence in fencing and explore how these can be more accessible for the future.
